Born on 20 September 1969, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas hails from Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. He began his educational journey at Gwagwarwa Primary School, Kano, before proceeding to the Air Force Military School, Jos (1981–1986).
In 1987, he gained admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, as a member of Course 40 Regular, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry. He was commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant on 10 September 1993, marking the beginning of an illustrious naval career.
Rear Admiral Abbas is an Above Water Warfare (AWW) specialist, an area where he has demonstrated exceptional technical and operational mastery.
