The Anambra State Police Command has arrested ten suspected cultists and recovered a firearm with live ammunition in its ongoing crackdown on cult-related activities across the state.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation was carried out in the early hours of Thursday, September 18, 2025, by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) in Enugwu-Ukwu, Oyi Local Government Area.
Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed the residence of one **Ndefoh Chijoke**, 23, identified as a member of the Aye Confraternity (Black Axe), in Ogbunike village. During the search, officers recovered an Ontario CA American-made pistol loaded with one live round of ammunition.
Further interrogation of the suspect led to the arrest of nine other individuals linked to cult-related activities. They include: **Obuh Onyedika** (27), **Obuh Confidence** (19), **Mbanusi Nnaemeka** (22), **Godwin Udebeh** (31), **Chizoba Onuake** (19), **Ohazunike Martins** (23), **Ndife Chidorie** (23), **Nwosu Chinecherem** (22), and **Caleb Nwafor** (26).
The suspects are currently undergoing screening and profiling, with those found culpable expected to be charged in court.
Commissioner of Police, **CP Ikioye Orutugu**, commended the swift action of the operatives, stressing the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations and community collaboration in tackling cultism, firearms proliferation, and violent crimes in Anambra.
He assured residents that other parts of the state remain calm as counter-terrorism and crime prevention operations continue.
