Wilson Uche, a respected voice in Nigeria’s tourism sector, has been elected Vice President (South East) of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN).
In his acceptance remarks, Uche described the role as “a call to service, a shared mission, and a bold opportunity to reimagine the future of tourism in the South East,” also known as *Ndigbo* and *Alaigbo*.
He outlined a vision to position the region as Nigeria’s leading cultural and heritage destination, leveraging tourism as a driver of cultural pride, economic growth, and community empowerment.
His strategic priorities include strengthening unity among FTAN’s state chapters in the region, advocating for infrastructure development, empowering MSMEs and young people through capacity-building, raising FTAN’s visibility through strategic partnerships, promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism, and improving access to funding for tourism projects.
“This is more than a vision—it is a collective journey we must embark on, driven by passion, guided by purpose, and anchored in unity,” Uche said, urging stakeholders to work together with “courage and clarity” to achieve a vibrant tourism sector in the South East.
His election has been welcomed with optimism by tourism stakeholders, who see it as a promising step toward revitalising the sector and unlocking the region’s tourism potential.
