Union Bank Marks World Environment Day With Symposium, School Recycling Initiatives

In commemoration of World Environment Day 2025, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc reaffirmed its leadership in sustainability by collaborating with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) to host a symposium focused on combating plastic pollution.

Themed *”Ending Plastic Pollution,”* the event took place at the Lekki Conservation Centre in Lagos and convened corporate executives, environmental advocates, and key stakeholders to discuss the environmental and economic consequences of plastic waste, while exploring innovative solutions for a cleaner planet.

Delivering remarks at the symposium, Union Bank’s Chief Brand and Marketing Officer, Olufunmilola Aluko, highlighted the bank’s commitment to driving sustainability beyond its core banking operations.

“At Union Bank, sustainability goes beyond banking. We are dedicated to empowering communities with knowledge and resources, like recycling initiatives to tackle plastic pollution and rejuvenate our environment,” she said.

As part of its broader *UnionCares* Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) platform, Union Bank also extended its efforts to the educational sector by donating recycling bins to secondary schools across Lagos. The initiative aims to raise environmental consciousness among young Nigerians and instill responsible waste management practices at an early age.

These activities underscore the bank’s longstanding dedication to ethical business practices, environmental stewardship, and social impact.

Established in 1917, Union Bank is one of Nigeria’s oldest financial institutions, with a legacy of providing “Simpler, Smarter Banking” services to individuals and businesses. The bank operates over 300 branches nationwide and offers a range of financial solutions, including deposit accounts, loans, equipment leasing, trade finance, and a suite of digital banking services.
