The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin-Can Island Port Command, has recorded a total revenue of ₦747.07 billion for the first half of 2025, reflecting a remarkable 29.85% increase compared to the ₦575.36 billion generated in the corresponding period of 2024.
According to a statement released by the Command, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, noted that the revenue figure represents 98.03% of the Command’s target for the first half of the year.
Providing a breakdown of the revenue performance, Comptroller Onyeka disclosed that in January 2025, the Command generated ₦116.41 billion, up from ₦88.43 billion in January 2024. In February, collections rose to ₦103.25 billion, surpassing the ₦100.25 billion recorded the previous year.
Revenue generation continued to rise in the months of March through May, with figures of ₦128.27 billion, ₦145.02 billion, and ₦128.45 billion respectively. These numbers exceeded both the Command’s monthly target of ₦127.06 billion and revenue from March to May 2024, which stood at ₦115.11 billion, ₦95.70 billion, and ₦92.67 billion respectively. In June 2025, the Command generated ₦125.68 billion, also outperforming the ₦83.19 billion recorded in June 2024.
The Command also reported progress with the implementation of the Bodogwu clearance system, with 3,450 Single Goods Declarations (SGDs) received and 2,749 successfully processed and exited. Several stakeholder trainings have been conducted to improve understanding and use of the system.
On cargo throughput, Comptroller Onyeka revealed that 282 vessels called at the port during the first quarter, bringing in bulk items such as wheat, malt, lab chemicals, drilling rods, sugar, and aluminum nitride, as well as general cargo.
In anti-smuggling operations, the Command recorded significant seizures of illicit drugs, arms, and ammunition. Over ₦8.05 billion worth of hard drugs were intercepted and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). These included 128 packets of Cannabis Indica, 97 packets of crystal methamphetamine, and 1,735 packets of Cannabis Indica with a combined weight exceeding 1,000 kilograms.
Also intercepted was a container conveying four used vehicles which concealed various arms and ammunition. Items recovered included two pistols (a Ruger P345 and a 23 Gen 4 Austria pistol), 134 rounds of 9mm ammunition (live and blank), five empty magazines, two handcuffs, and one small iron flashlight. These items were handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) alongside the consignee and declarant.
Comptroller Onyeka emphasized that these actions reflect the Command’s firm commitment to national security and its resolve to collaborate with relevant security agencies.
The Command also highlighted efforts to strengthen stakeholder engagement, holding frequent consultations with terminal operators, industry leaders, government agencies, customs agents, international organizations, and civil society. Comptroller Onyeka said these engagements are vital for improving transparency, encouraging compliance, and attracting trade to the port, adding that regular press briefings have also been held to keep the public informed.
He expressed appreciation to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his leadership and recent election as Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council, describing the victory as “divinely inspired.” He also commended the dedication of officers and stakeholders at the port and urged continued professionalism, resilience, and collaboration to sustain the Command’s performance.
