The Plateau Patriotic Front (PPF) has lauded Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his swift and compassionate response to the tragic mob attack in Mangun District, Mangu Local Government Area, which left eight people dead on Friday evening.
In a statement released on Sunday, PPF National Coordinator, Mani Imman, praised the Governor’s prompt visit to the victims and his resolute condemnation of mob violence. The group described his actions as a reflection of true leadership during a time of crisis.
The victims, mostly travellers heading to a wedding in Quan’pan Local Government Area from Zaria, Kaduna State, were reportedly mistaken for intruders amidst escalating tensions in the region. Preliminary investigations revealed that the travellers had lost their way and unintentionally entered the Mangun community around 6:00 p.m., where they were attacked by a mob agitated by recent terrorist incursions in the area.
Governor Mutfwang, during his visit to the General Hospital in Mangu where survivors are receiving treatment, expressed heartbreak over the incident, describing it as “deeply painful and entirely avoidable.”
The PPF further urged residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding, cautioning against allowing fear and frustration to fuel violence. It noted that Governor Mutfwang is committed to good governance and peace, and must be supported by all stakeholders to steer the state away from violence and instability.
