The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Quorra, a key training facility of the Nigerian Navy, on Friday, 20 June 2025, graduated over 500 student ratings from various professional courses conducted in the first quarter of the year.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Naval Training Command, represented by the Command Operational Officer of the Western Naval Command, Commodore Abdulrahman Mohammed, charged the graduands to justify the Navy’s investment in their training. He urged them to return to the field with renewed professionalism and deploy the knowledge acquired to enhance the operational capacity of the Nigerian Navy.
“The Service is looking up to you to uphold the standard and deliver quality performance across all units. Your contribution will be critical in manning various naval platforms and assets with efficiency and competence,” he said.
Commodore Mohammed also commended the Commandant of NNS Quorra and the training staff for their dedication to grooming the graduands into skilled and disciplined naval personnel.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commandant of NNS Quorra, Commodore Benjamin Onalo, expressed gratitude to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Admiralty Medal, for his unwavering support to the training objectives of the school. He noted that the school’s recent certification by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) as a Maritime Training Institute has elevated its capacity to offer globally competitive certifications.
“With this NIMASA certification, our graduands can look forward to viable opportunities within the broader maritime industry even after active naval service,” he said, while urging them to remain committed to future training opportunities and uphold the values of the Nigerian Navy.
The event featured the presentation of awards to outstanding students who distinguished themselves during the six-month course. The graduands were drawn from a range of specialised schools including the Underwater Warfare School, Navigation and Direction School, Communication and Information Technology School, and the Computer Training School.
Others include the Physical and Sports Training School, the Nigerian Navy School of Music, Chaplaincy Schools, and the Naval Directorate of Islamic Training School.
The graduation underscores the Navy’s continued emphasis on capacity building and professionalism in line with its strategic objectives for national maritime security and personnel development.
