Nigerian Navy Repels Boko Haram/ISWAP Attack on Lake Chad Base, Neutralizes Dozens of Terrorists

The Nigerian Navy has successfully thwarted a coordinated attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents on its Naval Base in Lake Chad, Borno State, neutralizing several terrorists in a fierce early morning gun battle.

According to military sources, the attack occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, when insurgents launched a surprise offensive targeting newly acquired swamp buggies provided by the Borno State Government for waterways clearance in the Lake Chad Basin, as well as other key military installations within the base.

The attempted sabotage was decisively repelled by personnel of the Naval Base Lake Chad, with rapid reinforcement from the Land and Air Components of Operation HADIN KAI, the multi-service task force charged with combating terrorism in the North-East.

Military authorities reported that the Nigerian Navy, working in synergy with Army and Air Force units, displayed superior tactical coordination and overwhelming firepower, resulting in heavy casualties among the insurgents.

“The swift and courageous response of our personnel at Naval Base Lake Chad, bolstered by joint support from Operation HADIN KAI, led to the neutralization of many terrorists and the recovery of arms and ammunition,” a senior naval officer confirmed.

Though the exact number of casualties was not disclosed, visuals made available under a “viewer discretion” advisory show a significant number of neutralized insurgents and confiscated weaponry.

The Navy praised the professionalism and bravery of its personnel, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and defeating all threats to peace and national security in the North-East region.

This latest victory adds to the growing momentum of Nigerian security forces in their mission to dismantle insurgent strongholds in the Lake Chad region and restore normalcy to affected communities.
