In a renewed drive to enhance the health, morale, and operational efficiency of officers, the Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has reintroduced routine medical checkups and weekly physical exercises for its personnel.
The initiative, which kicked off on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Command’s premises, was spearheaded by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Chidi Chukwumeziri Nwokorie. The move is part of a broader effort to promote work-life balance among officers, in line with the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs.
In his opening remarks, Comptroller Nwokorie emphasized the importance of health in the performance of duty, noting that the exercise was not intended as a forced routine but as a proactive measure to help officers monitor their health and detect potential issues early.
He further announced that henceforth, the Command would conduct medical checkups every two weeks and mandate weekly physical training for all officers. According to him, the routine is designed to keep officers in peak physical condition, boost morale, and sustain the fighting spirit needed to combat smuggling and fulfill the Service’s core mandate effectively.
The launch exercise featured a range of sporting activities including football, basketball, and table tennis, all aimed at fostering camaraderie and physical fitness among personnel.
The statement was signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu, on behalf of the Area Controller.
