Governor Mutfwang’s Rail Revolution Eases Transportation Woes In Plateau

In a bold move to ease the burden of transportation on residents of Plateau State, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has reignited the state’s rail system, introducing a ₦200-per-trip shuttle between Jos and Bukuru. The initiative is part of a broader overhaul of the state’s transport system under the governor’s people-centric leadership.

Faced with the ripple effects of the federal government’s removal of fuel subsidy, which sent transportation costs soaring nationwide, Governor Mutfwang opted for immediate intervention rather than complaints. His first response was the introduction of a subsidized Metro Bus Service offering fares as low as ₦200 — a relief for civil servants, students, traders, and daily commuters alike.

Due to overwhelming public demand, the fleet was expanded and its routes widened, followed by the revival of the Plateau Express Service which now links various local government areas and states across the country. According to local reports, commuters using the state’s buses save up to ₦40,000 monthly.

The latest jewel in the administration’s crown is the rail shuttle between Jos and Bukuru, which officially commenced operations last week. Providing a safer, quicker, and environmentally friendly alternative to road transport, the service has been met with enthusiasm from residents and daily users. Commuters report significant cost savings and improved punctuality.

“This shuttle is more than just a train ride — it is a statement of progress,” said a commuter at the Bukuru station. “We now get to work faster, safer, and without the anxiety of road traffic.”

In addition to easing transport costs and time, the rail service is opening new opportunities for tourism. With Jos being the “Home of Peace and Tourism,” stakeholders believe the reintroduction of rail will attract more visitors while providing easier access to local attractions.

Environmental experts are also applauding the development. By encouraging public transportation and reducing vehicle usage, the initiative is expected to contribute positively to the state’s carbon footprint, aligning Plateau with global sustainability targets.

Governor Mutfwang’s strategy has been described by observers as visionary and effective, turning transportation from a challenge into a vehicle for socio-economic advancement.

“Governor Mutfwang is not just moving people, he’s moving Plateau forward,” said Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor. “His commitment to impactful governance is reflected in the lives that have been made easier by these transportation reforms.”

As Plateau State continues to witness infrastructural growth under the current administration, many believe the Jos-Bukuru rail shuttle is just a starting point — with more transformative projects expected in the near future.
