
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Monday, June 23, 2025, received the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Amuzie, and the Head of Federal Establishments in Anambra State, Mr. Chijoke Okechukwu, at the Command Headquarters in Awka.
The visit was aimed at developing strategic plans to address security concerns around the Federal Polytechnic Oko and other federal facilities within the state. The delegation met with CP Orutugu and top police officials to strengthen collaboration and improve community safety, especially in the wake of recent security incidents.

During the meeting, CP Orutugu expressed deep concern over the recent attack on June 19, 2025, in which armed assailants operating with a motorcycle and a black Lexus 350 SUV without a number plate opened fire at Total Junction, injuring four people, including a woman. The same group reportedly abducted two individuals at Tipper Junction before fleeing the scene.
He emphasized the need for closer cooperation between the police and the management of the institution to enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement operations and community surveillance.

In their joint response, Dr. Amuzie and Mr. Okechukwu appreciated the police for their swift intervention during the attack, noting that the prompt response helped prevent further casualties and property damage. They pledged to support ongoing investigations by providing relevant intelligence and to collaborate with the police in reinforcing security around the Polytechnic and other federal institutions.
Also present at the high-level meeting were the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, the Assistant Commissioners in charge of the Criminal Investigations Department and the State Intelligence Department, as well as other senior officers of the Command.

The meeting concluded with CP Orutugu presenting a gift to the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko in a symbolic gesture of goodwill and partnership.
This engagement further underscores the Anambra State Police Command’s commitment to proactive security measures and deepening institutional collaborations for safer communities.
