The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has dismissed allegations that its personnel were involved in burning homes, looting property, and harassing civilians in Umualumaku, Ehime-Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
In a statement, the Division described the claims as false and a calculated attempt to discredit its operations. It maintained that no soldier under its command was involved in such misconduct, stressing that troops operate in strict compliance with the code of conduct for military operations and rules of engagement.
The Army suggested that the allegations were the handiwork of criminal elements seeking to tarnish its image and erode the public trust it has built in the course of securing communities. It reiterated its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and the protection of law-abiding citizens.
The 82 Division pledged continued collaboration with security agencies, community leaders, and civil society organisations to apprehend those responsible for violence in the area. It also urged the media to rely on verified information to avoid playing into the hands of those who spread misinformation to undermine peace efforts.
