Transport stakeholders across Anambra State have pledged their unflinching support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election, citing his impactful projects and reforms in the transport sector. The assurance came during the Ministry of Transport’s quarterly townhall meeting held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Hall, Awka.
The well-attended forum brought together key figures in the state’s transportation system who lauded the Governor’s developmental strides, particularly his commitment to improving their welfare through the Ministry of Transport.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Transport, Mrs. Patricia Igwebuike, expressed delight at the turnout and appreciation shown by the transporters. She described Governor Soludo as “Oluatuegwu Ndigbo” and urged all participants to mobilize their members to vote en masse on November 8, 2025.
“Please ensure that you get your voter’s card and vote in Anambra where you live and do business,” she advised. “INEC’s continuous voter registration is ongoing. Let us not miss the opportunity to make our voices count in support of this administration.”
Earlier in his address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Chief Engr. Michael Obiekwe, said the townhall meeting was part of the ministry’s strategy to create a sustainable and efficient transport system for the state.
He noted that the sector plays a vital role in driving the state’s economy and called on stakeholders to be ambassadors of the current administration’s achievements.
“As the administration enters a crucial political period, we encourage you all to become faithful vanguards, sharing with the world what has been achieved so far,” Obiekwe said. “Together, we can strengthen the services government provides to the transport family.”
The meeting also featured open interactions, speeches, presentation of challenges, and question-and-answer sessions. It provided a platform for transport operators to air their concerns and contribute ideas toward improving the sector.
Among the attendees were Comrade Celestine Anere, Managing Director and Chief Superintendent General of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), representatives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS), Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA), Heavy Duty Truck Associations, Motorcycle and Keke operators, and commercial bus drivers.
Mr. Christopher Okeke, Head of Transport Operations, moderated the meeting, which ended with renewed commitments from all stakeholders to support the re-election of Governor Soludo and the continued growth of the state’s transport system.
