The Anambra State Police Command has strongly condemned the brutal shooting incident that claimed the lives of ten people in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area, on the evening of June 30, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on July 1, the police described the attack as senseless and unprovoked, assuring that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
According to the statement, the assailants stormed the community in two Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and opened fire on a peaceful gathering, killing ten people on the spot. The victims were rushed to the hospital, but all ten were confirmed dead. Their remains have since been deposited in the morgue.
“The Anambra State Police Command condemns in the strongest terms the indiscriminate shooting incident that resulted in fatal injuries and fatalities to ten persons at Ogboji,” SP Ikenga stated. “The Command shall hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.”
He added that a police-led security team has taken control of the area and is working with available intelligence to track and apprehend the attackers.
The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding as investigations continue. Further updates on the situation will be communicated as they unfold.
The tragic incident has sparked concern across the state, with calls for improved security in rural communities and renewed efforts to tackle rising violence in parts of the southeast.
