The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a comprehensive clampdown on all unlawful gatherings across the state, following credible intelligence suggesting plans by the Neo-Black Movement of Africa to engage in cult initiations and supremacy attacks today, July 7, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner warned that such criminal activities—particularly within student-dominated areas—pose serious threats to public peace and safety.
To forestall any breach of security, CP Orutugu has intensified deployment of operatives, especially within student communities, under the School Protection Squad (SPS). He directed officers to be on the offensive and take proactive measures to prevent cult-related violence and reprisals.
The SPS, an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, is designed to safeguard students, educational institutions, and related infrastructure nationwide.
The Police Commissioner also cautioned hotel and bar owners, as well as managers of lounges and studio apartments, against allowing their facilities to be used for any cult-related meetings or activities. He advised them to conduct due diligence and immediately report suspicious gatherings to law enforcement.
Additionally, the Command has deployed covert operatives to key areas such as parks, Keke stations, and other vulnerable locations across the state to monitor and disrupt any planned criminal activities.
CP Orutugu urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or gatherings to the nearest police station. He reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and order across Anambra.
