Anambra Police Arrest Two Over Diversion Of Cement Shipments Across Four States

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the diversion and illegal conversion of cement consignments across four southern states of Nigeria — Anambra, Edo, Rivers, and Delta.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Monday, June 30, 2025, the suspects — identified as Mr. Mmaduabuchi Udo and Mr. Abubakar Babangida — were apprehended in Abuja on June 23 by operatives of the Commissioner of Police (CP) Monitoring Unit after a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo specialized in using social media platforms to track and profile cement dealers. They reportedly extracted operational information from unsuspecting victims and used the data to divert consignments meant for legitimate businesses.

The police described the scheme as a sophisticated fraud network that poses a significant threat to the economic interests of businesses across multiple states. The arrests, according to the Command, serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of sharing sensitive business information online.

“The suspects are currently cooperating with investigators and have provided useful information that is aiding efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate,” the statement said.

The Command noted that once investigations are concluded, the suspects will be formally charged and prosecuted in court.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, has reassured the public of the Command’s continued efforts to combat economic and cyber-related crimes, safeguard lives and property, and protect commercial interests in the state.

The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency contact lines.
