In a bid to empower young girls with vital life skills, no fewer than 200 students from Lagos State Education District VI have been selected to undergo a comprehensive training program on menstrual hygiene management, leadership development, and etiquette.
The initiative, scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, 2025, will hold at the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Pavilion in Alausa, Ikeja, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The convener of the program, Mrs. Adeola Akinsulure, a Biology teacher at Omole Senior Grammar School and Founder of REACHHer Hub, said the training aims to equip girls with knowledge and confidence to manage their health and lead positive change in their communities.
“My aim is to educate girls on menstrual hygiene management, promote good health practices, and reduce the stigma associated with menstruation,” Akinsulure stated during a media roundtable. “We will also talk about the psychological effects of menstrual disorders such as Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS).”
She explained that the program will also focus on building leadership capabilities among participants, helping them take initiative and become role models within their schools and beyond.
According to her, the etiquette segment is designed to improve social and communication skills, preparing the girls for both personal and professional growth.
Akinsulure noted that the selection process prioritized students who have shown leadership potential or currently hold leadership roles, drawn from both junior and senior secondary schools across the three zones within the district.
The event will feature sessions facilitated by experts in education, health, and leadership, alongside interactive workshops and group activities that promote teamwork and personal development.
At the end of the training, participants will receive menstrual hygiene kits and educational materials to reinforce continued learning and healthy practices.
