
The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a Special Intervention Quick Impact Project comprising industrial solar-powered boreholes, 10,000-litre overhead tanks at three locations: Gadan Mai Alewa Jekadafari community, Layin Kasuwa community, and Sabon Layi Jekadafari, all within Gombe Local Government Area, Gombe state, on Thursday, 27 August 2026.
The project was executed in honour of Rear Admiral Shehu Usman Gombe (Retired), as a way of giving back to his hometown and the people of Gombe Local Government Area, Gombe state.
In his address, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal), represented by the Director Project Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Mohammed Yakubu Dahiru, stated that the project is part of the Nigerian Navy’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project.
He noted that the initiative also supports the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and serves as a means through which the Nigerian Navy recognizes and honours its distinguished senior officers.
Speaking at the event, the Special Guest of Honour, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Dan Majen Gombe) CON who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner Special Duties and Regional Integration, Alhaji Shehu Yarima Abdullahi commended the Chief of the Naval Staff for executing the milestone project.
He described the intervention as a significant step toward addressing the portable water challenges facing Jekadafari community, adding that it would enhance hygiene and sanitation standards among residents and families.
The project facilitator, Rear Admiral Shehu Usman Gombe (Retired), expressed profound appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff for providing the platform for the intervention and the opportunity to the development of his home town.

The commissioning ceremony brought together distinguished personalities, including Gombe State Government officials, traditional rulers and senior military officers.
