Prof. Christopher Imumolen, former presidential candidate and National Chairman of the Accord Party, has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race and declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Imumolen, who announced the decision in a statement, said his withdrawal followed consultations with the leadership of the Accord Party and was guided by what he described as the national interest.
According to him, his decision was not motivated by personal ambition but by the need to promote political stability, continuity and economic recovery in Nigeria.
“I made the patriotic decision to withdraw from the presidential race and fully support the re-election of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the 2027 Presidential Election,” he said.
Imumolen said Tinubu’s economic reform agenda broadly aligned with his own policy priorities, particularly in the areas of economic transformation, education, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and industrialisation.
He also commended the President’s political experience and leadership capacity, describing his ability to navigate Nigeria’s complex political and economic challenges as evidence of strategic leadership.
The Accord leader further cited institutional reforms, continuity in governance and the President’s ability to identify and empower competent Nigerians as factors behind his decision.
Imumolen expressed confidence in the administration’s economic direction, arguing that sustained reforms, fiscal discipline and policy consistency would help attract investment, create jobs and strengthen the economy.
He urged members of the Accord Party, his supporters, youths, professionals and other Nigerians to support Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign, stressing that national unity should take precedence over individual political ambitions.
“Our aspiration has always been to serve Nigeria and not merely to occupy public office,” Imumolen said, adding that his decision represented a sacrifice in the interest of the country. He also prayed for peace, stability and prosperity in Nigeria.
