…False alarm in Lagos Police move fast to quell tension
The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral alarm suggesting an imminent cult clash across parts of the state, moving swiftly to reassure residents and tighten security in identified areas.
The alarm, which spread rapidly across messaging platforms, had named communities such as Shitta, Akerele, Itire, Aguda, and Ishaga as potential flashpoints for a retaliatory attack linked to an alleged cult-related incident.
In a statement issued from Ikeja, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, described the message as misleading, stressing that the Command had already activated proactive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
She disclosed that immediately after the initial report surfaced, security personnel and operational assets were deployed to the mentioned locations and adjoining communities, effectively neutralising any perceived threat.
At the centre of the response is the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, who has ordered intensified patrols and strategic positioning of officers across vulnerable corridors to reinforce public safety.
The Command further noted that visible policing has been scaled up, with officers maintaining a strong presence to deter unlawful gatherings and prevent any escalation of tension.
Authorities insist that the situation remains firmly under control, assuring residents that there is no cause for panic and that normal activities can continue without disruption.
While acknowledging public concern, the police warned against the spread of unverified information capable of inciting fear or disorder, urging citizens to depend only on credible and official sources.
Residents were also encouraged to remain security conscious and report suspicious activities promptly through designated emergency channels or the nearest police formation.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Command said it would sustain its heightened operational posture, working in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure that peace and stability are not compromised across Lagos.
