The Anambra State Police Command has announced a total restriction of vehicular movement within and across the state on Saturday, November 8, 2025, the day of the Anambra Governorship Election.
According to a statement signed by SP Ikenga Tochukwu, Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, the restriction will be in effect from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day. The measure covers all roads in the state, including interstate highways, and is aimed at maintaining peace and preventing the movement of political thugs or other criminal elements who might attempt to disrupt the electoral process.
The decision, the statement noted, was reached during a joint meeting of Security Services Commanders in Anambra State held at the Police State Headquarters, Awka, on November 5, 2025.
“The restriction is a proactive step to guarantee the safety of lives and property and ensure that voters can exercise their franchise in a secure environment,” SP Ikenga stated.
The order applies to all categories of motorized transport, including private cars, commercial vehicles, trucks, tricycles, motorcycles, and shuttle buses. Interstate travelers are therefore advised to seek alternative routes or adjust their travel plans during the period of restriction.
However, certain groups are exempted from the ban including officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accredited journalists and election observers, medical personnel, emergency responders, and other essential service providers. Such individuals are required to carry valid identification and clearance tags at all times.
The Command appealed to residents to adhere strictly to the directive, emphasizing that it is designed to promote a peaceful and credible electoral process.
“We urge all citizens to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security operatives deployed across the state, and avoid any act capable of undermining public peace,” the statement added.
Security agencies have been fully mobilized to enforce the restriction and ensure that the election proceeds smoothly without any breach of law and order.
