The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has discredited a fraudulent press release currently making the rounds on social media and messaging platforms, which falsely announces a shortlist for a Computer-Based Test (CBT) as part of its ongoing recruitment exercise.
According to a statement signed by the Assistant Comptroller of Customs and National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the fake release falsely claimed that the CBT would take place in July 2025. The NCS has, however, categorically denied issuing any such announcement.
“The said press release is fraudulent, misleading, and did not emanate from the Nigeria Customs Service,” the statement reads. “At no time did the Service issue any announcement regarding a CBT slated for July 2025.”
The Customs Service pointed out several discrepancies in the circulated document, particularly in its formatting and e-signature, which differ from the NCS’s official standards. The timeline in the document was also described as faulty and inconsistent with any legitimate recruitment process.
While acknowledging the public’s keen interest in the ongoing recruitment exercise, the NCS warned Nigerians to disregard unverified information and avoid sharing or acting upon such false content. The Service reaffirmed that only information published on its official website, verified social media accounts, and recognized national newspapers should be considered authentic.
The statement further disclosed that efforts are underway to trace the origin of the misinformation and to take appropriate legal action against those behind the fake release.
“The NCS deeply appreciates the vigilance of concerned Nigerians and reaffirms its commitment to protecting the public from misinformation while upholding transparency and integrity in all its processes,” it added.
The Customs Service urged applicants and the general public to remain alert and await formal notifications through credible and authorized channels when the next phase of the recruitment process is set to commence.
