The Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency Elders Forum has endorsed Hon. Tony Nweze Nwora, popularly known as TNN, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
The endorsement was announced after a general meeting held in Onitsha on Wednesday, attended by representatives from various wards across the senatorial zone. Members unanimously backed Nwora’s candidacy, citing his record in public service and his previous tenure as chairman of Onitsha North Local Government Area.
Speaking after the meeting, the forum’s chairman, Chief Daniel Anunihu, said the decision was based on Nwora’s people oriented leadership, humane disposition and performance during his time in local government.
Anunihu argued that Nwora deserved an opportunity to serve at the federal level, drawing a comparison between political leadership and academic advancement. According to him, a student who performs well deserves promotion, just as a public office holder who delivers on his responsibilities should be considered for a higher position.
He said the forum was determined to support a candidate it considered capable of representing the constituency effectively, adding that the era of politicians who exploit young people for political gains and abandon them afterwards should come to an end.
The chairman also stressed the need for the constituency to elect a representative who could concentrate on legislative responsibilities without unnecessary distractions. He said the forum preferred a candidate with a credible public record and expressed concern about the reputational consequences of electing individuals facing criminal charges.
Anunihu urged eligible voters across Onitsha North and South to ensure they obtained their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the 2027 general election. He maintained that voter participation would be critical to the constituency’s political future.
Reaffirming the forum’s position, Anunihu declared its support for APGA and urged residents to vote for Nwora in the forthcoming election. The endorsement adds to the political activity ahead of the 2027 polls, although the forum’s decision represents its members’ position and does not establish the wider electorate’s preference.
