What was supposed to be a press conference ahead of Thursday’s celebrity boxing event quickly turned chaotic as skit maker Carter Efe and rapper Speed Darlington traded heated words in Lagos.
The confrontation happened on Tuesday at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton, Ikeja, during the build-up to their October 1 celebrity boxing bout, part of the “Chaos in the Ring” Independence Day event.
Tensions rose during the face-off as both entertainers exchanged threats ahead of their much-anticipated clash.
Carter Efe, who defeated singer Portable by unanimous decision in May, questioned Speed Darlington’s decision to step into the ring with him.
Speed Darlington, however, appeared unfazed and warned Efe about the championship belt he currently holds.
Birthday cake turns into another drama
The tension took another turn when a birthday cake was presented to Carter Efe during the event.
According to reports, Speed Darlington kicked the cake to the ground, further escalating the already tense atmosphere.
The drama continued when firecrackers reportedly set off by members of Efe’s entourage caused a brief fire at the venue. Security and venue personnel quickly intervened and extinguished the fire.
Phyna and Nkechi Blessing add to the drama
The Carter Efe–Speed Darlington confrontation was not the only heated moment at the press conference.
BBNaija winner Phyna and actress Nkechi Blessing also exchanged heated words ahead of their own celebrity boxing bout, which is scheduled for October 1.
The two celebrity bouts will form part of the Independence Day Chaos in the Ring event in Lagos, alongside professional boxing contests.
Carter Efe and Speed Darlington will finally settle their rivalry inside the ring on October 1, at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos. The event is scheduled to be broadcast on SuperSport and DAZN.
With tensions already boiling over before fight night, attention is now firmly on what happens when the two entertainers finally step into the ring.
Will the drama end at the press conference, or will it continue in the ring?
