The Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Annex, Lagos, says it received 1,816 letters of complaint and secured several investigative breakthroughs between June 25 and September 18, 2026.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the FCID Annex, Lagos, AIG Simeon Akpanudom, disclosed this on Friday while briefing journalists on the department’s operational achievements during the period under review.
Akpanudom said the FCID Annex had continued to strengthen its investigative capacity through specialised training, improved infrastructure, personnel welfare initiatives and collaboration with government institutions, security agencies and other stakeholders.
According to him, nine of the complaints received during the period were referred to various state Commissioners of Police and formations, while four were declined after being found to be civil matters.
He said 1,803 complaints were referred for investigation and reports, while 24 cases were concluded and processed in various courts. Other cases, he added, remained at different stages of investigation, legal vetting and advice.
The AIG said 17 additional personnel had undergone specialised training as part of measures to improve professional competence and investigative effectiveness at the annex.
He also disclosed that the department had undertaken infrastructure improvements, including the renovation of holding cells, installation of solar systems, provision of visitors’ tags and storage cabinets, office signage and upgrades to staff facilities.
Akpanudom said the welfare of personnel remained part of the command’s priorities, noting that officers were encouraged to utilise available medical services while also being granted leave and permission to attend to pressing family responsibilities.
He said the Force Medical Director, AIG Nkechi Eze, had visited the FCID Annex clinic on August 24 to assess the facility and identify areas requiring improvement.
The AIG also highlighted increased engagement with stakeholders, including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, NAFDAC and other government and professional bodies.
The FCID boss said such engagements were aimed at improving interagency cooperation, strengthening investigations and facilitating effective criminal justice delivery. The Lagos State Ministry of Justice has separately confirmed its commitment to deeper collaboration with the FCID on investigations, prosecution and justice administration.
He further disclosed that the annex had received the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, alongside other stakeholders, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation on security and related matters.
Giving details of some of the major investigations, Akpanudom said detectives arrested four suspects over the alleged vandalism and theft of telecommunications equipment estimated at N150 million.
He said the investigation followed a petition received on August 11 from PLUTOLORD Solicitors on behalf of ATC Telecommunications Nationwide over attacks on telecommunications facilities in parts of the South-East and Lagos between March and May.
According to him, SWAT operatives attached to the FCID Annex arrested Abuchi Odikemere, 29; Anyanwu Emmanuel, 28; Kayode Segun, 28; and Emmanuel Chineku, 17, at a shop in the Kosofe area of Lagos.
The police said recovered exhibits included 52 solar batteries, two surveillance cameras, three small solar panels, two solar meters, a hammer and a chisel. Investigators are still working to arrest other members of the alleged syndicate.
In another investigation, the FCID said four suspects were arrested over an alleged burglary at a shop in Ojota, Lagos, where phones, smart watches, speakers, power banks and other accessories valued at about N20 million were reportedly stolen.
The police said three males and a female suspect were arrested, with some of the stolen property recovered, including three phones, a power bank, three generators and other electronic items. The suspects were subsequently charged to court.
The department also investigated an alleged false publication concerning Access Bank Plc, following a social media message claiming that the bank would shut down operations from September 23 and advising customers to close their accounts and withdraw their funds.
Akpanudom said detectives arrested Idorenyin Umoh and Fineness Monday Esu in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, over the alleged publication. He said both suspects were arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos on relevant charges.
The AIG also disclosed that INTERPOL rescued 36 victims of human trafficking during the period, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend suspects linked to the cases. One person was also repatriated.
Speaking on the police response to crime, Akpanudom said the Force had intensified intelligence-led operations and other crime-fighting strategies, including the Violent Crimes Response Units established by the Inspector General of Police.
He urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information on suspicious movements, transactions and activities, particularly during the ember months.
On police discipline, the AIG said the Nigeria Police Force would not condone professional misconduct, adding that sanctions were applied according to the nature and severity of infractions. He said adherence to due process and respect for citizens’ rights remained central to ongoing police reforms. His September 7 working visits to SWAT and PSFU also focused on professionalism, discipline, lawful investigations and respect for human rights.
On preparations for upcoming elections, Akpanudom said senior police officers were scheduled to meet in Owerri from September 21 to 23 to discuss security and intelligence preparations, adding that the Force was working towards ensuring adequate security.
He also called on young people and parents to reject cultism, cybercrime and other forms of criminality, stressing that the public has a role to play in preventing crime and strengthening community security.
The AIG commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Force Management Team, police personnel, government agencies, financial institutions, the judiciary, sister security agencies, corporate organisations, professional bodies and the media for their cooperation.
Akpanudom assured Nigerians that suspects found culpable after investigations would be prosecuted before courts of competent jurisdiction in accordance with extant laws, while the FCID Annex would continue to focus on protecting critical infrastructure, combating economic crimes and strengthening public confidence in the justice system.
