The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), Nigeria, has unveiled plans for its 2026 National Conference, with stakeholders expected to examine practical solutions to the country’s transport, logistics and infrastructure challenges.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, during a pre-conference press briefing at the NIMASA Resource Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos, on behalf of the Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Prof. Kayode Oyesiku, FCILT.
The conference is scheduled to hold from October 21 to 23, 2026, at NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, under the theme, “Transforming Nigeria’s Transport and Logistics Systems for Shared Prosperity and Sustainable Infrastructure.”
Oyesiku said the theme was deliberately chosen to address challenges that affect Nigerians and businesses daily, stressing that efficient transport and logistics remain central to economic development.
According to him, the movement of people, agricultural produce, industrial inputs and finished products depends heavily on an efficient transport system, while the performance of ports, borders and logistics networks also has a direct bearing on trade and business competitiveness.
He described transport and logistics as critical components of the national economy, noting that inefficiencies in the system could increase costs for households and businesses, constrain productivity and limit access to markets.
The conference planning committee said Nigeria needed to move beyond isolated infrastructure projects towards an integrated transport system where road, rail, aviation, maritime transport, inland waterways, ports, terminals, logistics hubs and last-mile services complement one another.
The organisers also identified climate-resilient infrastructure, effective institutional coordination, technology, improved visibility and accountability as key requirements for building a modern and sustainable logistics ecosystem.
The conference is expected to provide a platform for government officials, transport professionals, logistics operators, infrastructure experts, academics, investors and other stakeholders to exchange ideas on improving the efficiency and resilience of Nigeria’s transport and supply-chain systems.
Oyesiku conveyed greetings from CILT Nigeria’s National President and Chairman of Council, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, OFR, mni, NPOM, FCILT, FNIM, FCIPM, as well as the National Council, Board of Directors and members of the institute, while urging the media and stakeholders to support the national conversation on transport and logistics reform.
