The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a notorious one chance robbery syndicate operating in Abeokuta, following an intelligence led operation by the Violent Crime Response Unit.
The suspects, identified as 29 year old Bidemi Tijani and 42 year old Olajide Rasaq, were arrested on August 15, 2026, after police operatives intercepted a vehicle linked to the syndicate in the Ita Oshin area of the state capital.
The Command said the breakthrough followed actionable intelligence on the activities of the suspects, who allegedly posed as commercial taxi operators to target unsuspecting passengers.
According to the police, members of the syndicate allegedly dispossessed passengers of mobile phones, cash and other valuables after luring them into their vehicle.
Acting on the intelligence, operatives of the VCRU reportedly launched a pursuit of the suspects as they headed towards Ita Oshin, eventually intercepting their vehicle and arresting the two men.
The police said preliminary investigation and statements obtained from the suspects indicated that they allegedly confessed to being members of the robbery syndicate operating within the Abeokuta metropolis.
The Command said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the group believed to be at large, while investigators were also working to establish the full extent of their operations and recover relevant exhibits.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the VCRU operatives for their swift response, vigilance and professionalism during the operation.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s determination to rid Ogun State of criminal elements, warning that criminals would find no safe haven in the state.
He urged residents and commuters to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons and criminal activities through the Gateway Shield toll free line 0800 000 9111 or the emergency numbers 09164859299 and 09154293464.
