Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged voters in Osun State to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in Saturday’s election, saying an APC administration would strengthen the state’s relationship with the Federal Government.

Akpabio, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, made the appeal on Thursday at the APC campaign finale held at Freedom Park, Osogbo, as the party concluded its campaign ahead of the August 15 governorship poll.

The Senate President said electing Oyebamiji would give Osun greater access to federal infrastructure, economic development initiatives and other programmes of the Tinubu administration.

He urged voters to consider the potential benefits of aligning the state government with the Federal Government, calling on them to “choose wisely” when casting their ballots.

Akpabio also assured residents that adequate security arrangements would be made to protect voters and safeguard the electoral process. He said Tinubu remained committed to democracy and would not allow anyone to undermine the election.

He appealed to APC supporters and other residents to maintain peace before, during and after the poll, warning against retaliation if provoked. Akpabio also reminded voters that activity on social media was different from what happened at polling units.

“Social media are not the same thing as polling units,” he said, urging residents to leave online debates behind and participate peacefully in the electoral process.

APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, formally presented the party’s flag and symbol to Oyebamiji, urging Osun voters to support the party’s candidate. Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, pledged to prioritise the welfare of residents if elected.

Oyebamiji said his administration would focus on delivering practical results and improving the lives of residents, declaring: “Governance is not about dancing. No more dancing in Osun. It’s time for work.”

Former Governor Bisi Akande and Senator Iyiola Omisore also canvassed support for the APC candidate, while Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru and other party leaders attended the rally and joined the final campaign push for Oyebamiji.
