The Forward Operating Base (FOB) Formoso has reinforced its commitment to personnel welfare and operational excellence with the successful hosting of a Run Ashore and Second Quarter Birthday Celebration for officers, ratings and civilian staff, in line with the Chief of the Naval Staff’s welfare initiative.
The event, held on Friday, July 17, 2026, brought together military personnel and civilian employees in a relaxed atmosphere designed to strengthen unity, improve workplace relationships and enhance teamwork across the Base.
The celebration featured special recognition for personnel and civilian staff born between April and June, as colleagues gathered to honour them in a colourful ceremony that underscored the Nigerian Navy’s growing emphasis on welfare and staff motivation.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to the Best Rating and Best Civilian Staff of the Month. The honours recognised individuals whose outstanding dedication, discipline and exceptional service distinguished them among their peers.
Speaking during the occasion, the Commanding Officer of FOB Formoso, Captain SK Haruna, praised officers, ratings and civilian staff for their unwavering commitment to duty and professionalism despite the demanding nature of their assignments.
He explained that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff to improve personnel welfare, reward excellence and create a productive work environment capable of sustaining high operational standards across naval formations.
Captain Haruna noted that recognising exceptional performance serves as a strong motivation for personnel to remain focused, disciplined and committed to delivering quality service in support of the Nigerian Navy’s strategic objectives.
He stressed that hard work and dedication would always receive due recognition, urging all personnel to continue demonstrating integrity, loyalty and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The gathering also provided an opportunity for officers, ratings and civilian staff to interact beyond official duties, deepen mutual understanding and strengthen the spirit of cooperation that remains essential to the success of naval operations.
The welfare initiative further reflects the Nigerian Navy’s determination to build a highly motivated workforce where excellence is celebrated, teamwork is strengthened and personnel remain inspired to deliver effective maritime security in support of national development.
