Official Records Strengthen Confidence In AIG Jimoh As Ajiran Murder Probe Follows Due Process

Emerging official records have strengthened public confidence in the conduct of the Ajiran double murder investigation, with documents indicating that Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, acted within established legal procedures and under directives from the Inspector General of Police.

The development follows weeks of public debate and corruption allegations circulated on social media against the senior police officer.

However, documents reviewed by this newspaper present a different account, suggesting that the investigation was initiated through formal institutional processes rather than personal discretion.

Records indicate that the case originated from a petition submitted to the Inspector General of Police by Chief Rotimi Williams’ Chambers on behalf of the Ojomu Chieftaincy Family of Ajiran.

Following the petition, Police Headquarters reportedly directed the then Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, to investigate the allegations.

An official communication dated January 8, 2026, reportedly conveyed the Inspector General’s directive, indicating that the investigation was carried out pursuant to lawful instructions.

The records therefore suggest that Jimoh’s involvement was based on official assignment rather than any personal initiative.

The controversy gained prominence after activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, publicly accused the police officer of corruption, abuse of office and bias.

While the allegations attracted significant public attention, no documentary evidence has been publicly produced to substantiate the claims.

The official investigation file reportedly contains statements from several witnesses, including relatives of the deceased, who narrated the circumstances surrounding the killings of Prince Ademola Akinloye and Sheriff Ishola Salami.

Investigators also recorded statements from arrested suspects, identified as Shafi Fatai, popularly known as Fabo, and Yusuf Ismaila, alias Bariga.

According to the records, the suspects allegedly implicated businessman Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi in the planning and financing of the killings.

Legal experts note that the admissibility and evidential value of such statements remain matters exclusively for judicial determination.

Nonetheless, the documents indicate that investigators relied on multiple witness accounts and investigative materials in arriving at their conclusions.

The records also reference additional testimony alleging attempts to influence the release of suspects and discontinue the investigation through negotiations linked to a community land dispute.

Investigators reportedly examined supporting materials, including an alleged recorded telephone conversation presented during the investigation.

Court documents attached to the investigation further indicate that Magistrate Court No. 3 in Ogba initially granted police approval to arrest and remand the suspect pending further investigation.

Although that order was later set aside on procedural grounds, records show that the Federal High Court subsequently issued a separate arrest warrant in relation to allegations of conspiracy and murder.

Legal observers maintain that such a warrant remains effective until set aside by a competent court.

The records also reject claims that AIG Jimoh personally handled or improperly interacted with the suspect after his arrest.

According to the documents, the suspect was apprehended by INTERPOL authorities in the Republic of Benin before being transferred to INTERPOL Nigeria and later to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, in line with police procedures.

The records state that Jimoh’s role was limited to coordinating lawful repatriation and ensuring compliance with established investigative protocols.

No documentary evidence contained in the official file suggests any improper conduct by the senior police officer during that process.

The case has also attracted reactions from civil society organisations, including the Centre for Human and Socio Economic Rights, which commended the professionalism displayed during the investigation while urging all officers connected with the prosecution to maintain neutrality and strict compliance with due process.

Separately, the National Patriots Movement of Nigeria said the official records reinforce confidence in AIG Jimoh’s integrity, professionalism and commitment to justice.

In a statement signed by its President, Princess G. Adebajo Fraser, MFR, who also serves as Special Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, the group described Jimoh as a disciplined officer with a distinguished record of intelligence led policing, operational excellence and institutional leadership.

The organisation noted that while every public official must remain accountable, allegations should always be tested against documentary evidence, judicial proceedings and the rule of law rather than public opinion or social media campaigns.

It added that the Ajiran murder case remains before the courts and urged all parties to allow the judicial process to proceed without interference, stressing that only the courts can determine criminal liability while preserving the constitutional presumption of innocence for every person involved.
