Ogun Police Crack Down on Number Plate Violators, Foil Robbery Attacks, Recover Stolen Vehicles

The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its crime prevention campaign, recording major operational successes that include the arrest of robbery suspects, recovery of stolen vehicles and motorcycles, and the enforcement of traffic regulations targeting vehicles with illegal or concealed number plates.

The command disclosed that the operations were carried out under the directive of the Inspector General of Police, aimed at strengthening intelligence gathering, improving vehicle traceability and denying criminals the anonymity often exploited during criminal activities.

As part of the statewide enforcement exercise, police operatives intercepted 89 vehicles found operating without registration plates or with covered, altered or obscured number plates. The affected motorists are facing appropriate administrative and legal sanctions, including prosecution where necessary.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical teams to sustain the operation across Ogun State, describing compliance with vehicle registration laws as a critical component of preventive policing.

According to the command, the exercise is expected to improve intelligence collection, enhance investigations and strengthen public safety by making it easier to identify vehicles linked to criminal activities.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Ogere Division, acting on credible intelligence, foiled an armed robbery attack at Akuro Phase I in Ogere Remo after hoodlums invaded a residence and carted away two motorcycles, mobile phones, cash and other valuables.

The police, working with the Ogun State So Safe Corps, local vigilantes and community members, mounted a coordinated operation that forced the fleeing suspects to abandon the two stolen motorcycles before escaping into a nearby bush.

One suspect, identified as Abdulsalam Adam, was later arrested and is assisting investigators. Officers also recovered a knife, an expended cartridge and a broken padlock believed to have been used during the attack.

The command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, for further investigation.

In another breakthrough, operatives of the Ajuwon Division recovered a stolen Toyota Camry shortly after responding to a distress call over an armed robbery incident at Baale Akinosi area of Ajuwon.

The robbers had reportedly stolen mobile phones, jewellery, power banks, a laptop computer, the vehicle and other valuables before attempting to escape. Police operatives immediately launched a pursuit, forcing the suspects to abandon the vehicle.

One suspect, identified as Israel Salako, was arrested during the operation, while efforts have been intensified to track down other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional stolen property.

Commending officers involved in the successful operations, Ojajuni praised their professionalism, vigilance and swift response, saying the achievements reflected the command’s commitment to intelligence driven and community based policing.

The commissioner reaffirmed that the command would sustain visibility policing, stop and search operations, rapid response to distress calls and stronger collaboration with residents to curb crime across the state.

He also advised motorists to comply with vehicle registration regulations and urged residents to avoid boarding unregistered commercial vehicles, remain security conscious and continue providing timely intelligence that would assist security agencies in preventing crime and safeguarding lives and property across Ogun State.
