The Nigerian Navy has reinforced its operational readiness with the successful completion of the Second Quarter Route March by Forward Operating Base (FOB) Formoso in Bayelsa State, underscoring its commitment to maintaining a highly prepared and physically fit fighting force.
The exercise, conducted on Saturday, formed part of the Nigerian Navy’s 2026 Schedule of Events and took participants through the Egweama and Liama communities in Brass Local Government Area. It was designed to improve endurance, discipline and operational effectiveness among personnel.
The route march attracted a large turnout of officers, ratings, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving at the Base and community security personnel, reflecting growing cooperation between the military formation and its host communities.

The Commanding Officer of FOB Formoso, Captain S. K. Haruna, commended participants for their discipline, resilience and enthusiasm throughout the exercise, describing the turnout as a demonstration of professionalism and commitment to duty.
Haruna stressed that route marches remain a vital component of military training, helping personnel maintain the physical and mental fitness required to tackle evolving security challenges and respond effectively to operational demands.
He noted that regular fitness exercises contribute significantly to sustaining combat readiness, improving teamwork and enhancing the overall operational capability of the Nigerian Navy.
The Commanding Officer also praised the participation of the NYSC members and community security personnel, saying their support added value to the exercise and reflected the cordial relationship between the Base and its host communities.

According to him, the collaboration underscores the importance of civil military cooperation in promoting security, confidence building and peaceful coexistence within the operational environment.
The exercise concluded on a celebratory note as participants rendered three hearty cheers in honour of the Commanding Officer, marking the successful completion of the Second Quarter Route March and reaffirming the high morale of personnel.
The latest exercise highlights the Nigerian Navy’s sustained focus on strengthening operational preparedness, enhancing personnel welfare through physical fitness and deepening community partnerships in support of maritime and national security objectives.
