The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed claims linking a recent security breach in Mowe to banditry, describing the incident as an isolated criminal attack that is currently under active investigation.
The Command said the attack occurred at a private dredging site located in Magbon Etido, Mowe, stressing that preliminary findings do not support speculations that bandits were involved in the operation.
According to the police, the incident led to the death of a soldier who was on security duty at the facility, while another military personnel sustained injuries and is receiving medical treatment.
Police authorities noted that security agencies responded swiftly after receiving reports of the attack, triggering a coordinated security operation in the affected area.
The operation, conducted jointly by the Police and the Military, is aimed at tracking down and arresting those responsible for the deadly assault.
The Command stated that intelligence gathered so far points to a criminal act that is not connected to any known bandit network operating within or outside Ogun State.
It further explained that ongoing investigations and tactical deployments are expected to provide more clarity on the circumstances surrounding the attack and the identities of the perpetrators.
Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to ensuring that those behind the incident are brought to justice without delay.
To prevent any security breach and reassure residents, additional security personnel have been deployed to strategic locations around Mowe and adjoining communities.
The Ogun State Police Command urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports suggesting a bandit invasion, assuring residents that the situation remains under control and that there is no cause for panic as security agencies continue intensive operations in the area.
