The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media, describing it as an old recording from 2024 falsely presented as a recent security incident in the state.
The Command said the misleading footage was deliberately recirculated with alarming captions aimed at creating fear and confusion among residents across Ogun communities.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, urged members of the public to ignore the video and avoid spreading unverified security information capable of causing panic.
The police warned that the circulation of false security alerts could undermine ongoing efforts by security agencies to sustain peace and public order in the state.
According to the Command, the video currently trending online has no connection with any fresh incident in Ogun State, insisting that the security situation across the state remains stable and under control.
The police further noted that misinformation and recycled videos have become tools used by mischief makers to trigger unnecessary anxiety among citizens.
The Command reassured residents that security operatives remain vigilant and committed to protecting lives and property in every part of Ogun State.
It also encouraged citizens to continue with their lawful businesses and daily activities without fear, while remaining security conscious and cooperative with law enforcement agencies.
The police advised residents to rely only on verified information from official security channels before sharing reports capable of inflaming public tension.
For emergencies and credible security information, the Ogun State Police Command urged residents to contact the Gateway Shield toll free line on 0800 000 9111 or emergency numbers 09062837609, 09120141706, 09151027369 and 07084972994.
