FORMOSO Erupts As Navy Defeats Host Communities In NN 70 Volleyball Finale


The week long activities marking the 70th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy ended on a thrilling note in Bayelsa State as personnel of the Forward Operating Base FORMOSO defeated members of the host communities in a novelty volleyball encounter filled with excitement and celebration.

The colourful grand finale, held on Saturday at the Base Volleyball Court, drew officers, ratings, civilian workers, community leaders, corps members and invited guests who turned out in large numbers to witness the closing ceremony of the anniversary celebration.

Spectators cheered loudly as both teams displayed energy, determination and impressive coordination in a match that highlighted the growing bond between the Nigerian Navy and the riverine communities around FORMOSO.

The FOB FORMOSO side eventually emerged champions after winning three out of the four games played in the fiercely contested encounter.

The victory sparked jubilation across the Base as players and supporters celebrated the triumph with chants, applause and displays of excitement moments after the final whistle.

The champions were later presented with a trophy in recognition of their outstanding performance and commitment throughout the competition.

Speaking after the match, the Commanding Officer of FOB FORMOSO, Captain SK Haruna, expressed gratitude to personnel, civilian staff and members of the host communities for their support during the Nigerian Navy anniversary activities.

Haruna, who also took part in the volleyball contest, described the sporting event as more than just a competition, noting that it served as a platform for strengthening civil military cooperation and deepening mutual trust.

He commended the peaceful conduct of participants and praised stakeholders whose contributions ensured the success of the anniversary celebration in the area.

The Commanding Officer reaffirmed the commitment of the Base to sustaining cordial relations with surrounding communities through continuous engagement and cooperation.

He stressed that the Nigerian Navy would continue to promote peace, security and development within its operational environment while encouraging healthy interactions through sports and community based programmes.

Community leaders and invited guests also applauded the initiative, describing the volleyball match as a unifying event that further strengthened the relationship between the Navy and residents of the area.

The novelty volleyball encounter officially brought to a close a memorable week of activities commemorating the Nigerian Navy at 70, leaving behind scenes of friendship, unity and shared celebration among participants and spectators.
