The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base Lekki has reaffirmed its commitment to community development with an educational outreach programme held at Local Government Primary School, Orinyanrin, in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.

The event, tagged Educational Rhapsody, formed part of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy and attracted community leaders, education stakeholders, pupils and residents.
The outreach was organised to deepen civil military relations between FOB Lekki and communities within its operational area while promoting educational support for young learners.
Among dignitaries present at the event were the Baale of Orinyanrin Land, officials of the Ibeju Lekki Local Government Education Authority, representatives of the Lekki Local Council Development Area, members of the Parent Teacher Association, teachers, guests and journalists.

Speaking during the programme, the Commanding Officer of FOB Lekki, A. S. Nura, said the Nigerian Navy remained committed to protecting Nigeria’s maritime domain and supporting initiatives that uplift host communities.
He stated that the Navy’s responsibilities go beyond maritime security, noting that the service also places high priority on education, youth development and community engagement.
According to him, outreach programmes such as the Educational Rhapsody provide opportunities for the Navy to positively impact the lives of children and strengthen relationships with residents.

Capt. Nura urged the pupils to remain disciplined, dedicated to their studies and focused on building successful futures that would enable them contribute meaningfully to national development.
The programme featured the presentation of educational materials to the pupils, including school bags, shoes, socks, exercise books and writing materials aimed at supporting their learning activities.

Teachers and community leaders commended the Nigerian Navy for the initiative, describing the intervention as timely and beneficial to pupils in the coastal community.
The event ended with goodwill messages, interactions with the pupils and a group photograph involving naval officers, community representatives, teachers and students.
