Personnel of the Forward Operating Base FORMOSO have arrested two suspected armoured cable vandals in Bayelsa State during a targeted security operation aimed at protecting critical national infrastructure in the Niger Delta.
The suspects were apprehended at Akakumama Community in Nembe Local Government Area following actionable intelligence on alleged vandalism activities around the area.
Naval sources identified the suspects as Williams Sunday and Ayebadye Ikartie, who were allegedly caught vandalising armoured electricity cables linked to the OANDO Flow Station.
The cables reportedly supply electricity from the facility to Akakumama Community, making the installation strategic to both community power needs and operational activities within the axis.
Security officials disclosed that the operation was carried out on May 23, 2026, by personnel deployed from the FOB FORMOSO base to the OBAMA Houseboat security outpost.
According to the military formation, the arrest followed credible intelligence indicating that three suspected vandals had been operating around the community and targeting critical assets.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the patrol team stormed the location and intercepted the suspects allegedly in the process of cutting the armoured cables.
One of the suspects reportedly escaped upon sighting the naval patrol team, while the two others were successfully arrested at the scene during the operation.
Authorities noted that the alleged criminal activity, if not promptly stopped, could have disrupted electricity supply to the community and affected operations connected to the facility.
The Nigerian Navy said the operation further demonstrates FOB FORMOSO’s sustained commitment to protecting critical infrastructure, securing the maritime environment and combating economic sabotage across the Niger Delta.
The arrested suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Oil and Gas Unit, Bayelsa State Command, for further investigation and prosecution.
