
The Forward Operating Base FORMOSO on Thursday held a special Jumat prayer to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy, as officers and men reflected on the Service’s enduring commitment to national security and maritime safety.
The prayer session, which took place at the FOB FORMOSO Mosque on May 22, drew officers, ratings, civilian staff and supporters of the Nigerian Navy who gathered in an atmosphere of reverence and unity.
The event formed part of activities lined up nationwide to celebrate the Nigerian Navy at 70, with commands and formations holding programmes aimed at promoting patriotism, discipline and operational excellence.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of the Base Mosque, Abdulkadir Abdulkareem, urged personnel to uphold peace, unity and cooperation in the discharge of their responsibilities to the nation.
He stressed the importance of dedication to duty, noting that professionalism and fear of God remained critical to the success of military operations and national stability.
The cleric also offered prayers for the continued growth of the Nigerian Navy, while calling on personnel to remain steadfast and committed to the ideals of service and sacrifice.
Speaking on behalf of the Commanding Officer of FOB FORMOSO, Capt. SK Haruna, the Acting Executive Officer, Lt. Cdr. GH Yaro, conveyed the goodwill message of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, to officers and ratings of the Base.
According to the message, the naval chief charged personnel to remain focused on professionalism, discipline, innovation and selfless service as the Nigerian Navy continues to strengthen maritime security operations across the country.
The message further underscored the collective responsibility of personnel in advancing the operational capacity of the Service to effectively protect Nigeria’s maritime domain and support economic prosperity.
The special Jumat prayer concluded with a group photograph session and light refreshments for officers, ratings and guests, marking another memorable moment in the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary celebration.
