Lagos Monarch Endorses Navy Anniversary Celebration As NNS BEECROFT Strengthens Maritime Security Partnership

The Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Rilwanu Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu, ahead of the forthcoming 70th anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Navy.

The visit, which took place at the monarch’s palace in Isale Eko, formed part of activities lined up for the landmark anniversary celebration scheduled to hold from May 29 to June 4, 2026.

During the engagement, Commodore Adams-Aliu formally invited the revered traditional ruler to participate in the anniversary events while also seeking royal support for the commemorative programmes planned by the Navy.

He described the 70th anniversary as a defining moment in the history of the Nigerian Navy, noting that the institution has remained consistent in protecting the nation’s maritime domain and strengthening regional security architecture over the decades.

According to him, the anniversary would also provide an opportunity to reflect on the Navy’s operational milestones, contributions to national defence and commitment to sustaining peace across Nigeria’s coastal and inland waterways.

The naval commander further stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between the military and traditional institutions, particularly within coastal communities where maritime trade and economic activities remain critical to national growth.

He noted that stronger partnerships with traditional rulers would further enhance community support for security initiatives and deepen public confidence in ongoing efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial waters.

Responding, Oba Akiolu commended the Nigerian Navy for its steadfast commitment to maritime security and national stability, describing the service as a strategic pillar in the protection of Nigeria’s economic assets.

The monarch expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed his support for the Navy’s programmes, especially initiatives aimed at strengthening security, promoting unity and enhancing safety within the maritime environment.

He also acknowledged the role of naval personnel in combating criminal activities along the nation’s waterways and maintaining confidence within the maritime sector.

Hybrid News gathered that the anniversary celebration would feature a range of activities including ceremonial parades, community outreach initiatives and an International Fleet Review expected to hold at the waterfront in Eko Atlantic.

The weeklong celebration is expected to showcase the operational achievements, heritage and strategic evolution of the Nigerian Navy since its establishment, while reinforcing its enduring role in protecting Nigeria’s maritime interests and supporting national development.
