Nestlé Nigeria has marked a significant milestone in its youth development journey, celebrating 15 years of impact with the graduation of 20 trainees from its Flowergate Technical Training Centre.
The ceremony, held amid widespread commendation from stakeholders, underscored the company’s sustained investment in building technical and vocational capacity among young Nigerians.
The Technical Training Centre operates under Nestlé Needs YOUth, a global initiative launched in 2013 to equip young people with employable skills and expand access to meaningful job opportunities.
Since its inception in 2011 at the Agbara Factory, the programme has trained over 300 young Nigerians across its centres in Agbara, Flowergate and Abaji, reinforcing its role as a critical talent pipeline.
Backed by an investment exceeding ₦6 billion, the programme delivers an intensive 18 month curriculum blending theoretical instruction with hands on engineering experience.
Participants receive comprehensive training in food technology, manufacturing and engineering operations, positioning them to thrive in a rapidly evolving industrial landscape.
The training culminates in the prestigious City and Guilds of London Technicians Certification, an internationally recognised qualification that significantly enhances employability.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Wassim Elhusseini, described the initiative as central to the company’s purpose of improving quality of life and building sustainable communities.
He noted that over the years, the programme has not only strengthened Nestlé’s internal capabilities but also created pathways for young Nigerians to develop meaningful careers.
Country Human Resource Manager, Shakiru Lawal, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, revealing that about 98 percent of graduates secure employment within Nestlé, reflecting its effectiveness as a workforce development model.
He added that the company’s youth programmes across Central and West Africa are designed to unlock potential through structured training, apprenticeships and strong industry partnerships.
Delivering a moving valedictory speech, Samuel Oladokun, speaking on behalf of the graduating class, said the programme had instilled discipline, confidence and professionalism beyond technical competence.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity, affirming that the graduates are prepared to contribute meaningfully to industry growth and national development.
Traditional and government leaders also lent their voices, with the Akarigbo of Remoland, represented at the event, commending the initiative for its positive impact on local communities.
Similarly, Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, praised Nestlé for supporting government efforts in youth empowerment and skills development.
The event drew a distinguished audience including government officials, industry stakeholders and development partners, all of whom reaffirmed support for the programme’s continued success.
As Nestlé Nigeria deepens its commitment to sustainability and inclusive growth, the Technical Training Initiative remains a cornerstone of its strategy to equip the next generation with the skills required to shape the future.
