…Sango Ota, Ijebu Ode feel heat of relentless traffic crackdown
The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its sweeping enforcement under Operation No Traffic Gridlock, recording decisive outcomes across major congestion-prone corridors in the state.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, the Command launched coordinated operations targeting traffic violations and environmental obstructions in Sango Ota and the Ijebu Ode Toll Gate axis.
In Sango Ota, night operations led by the Area Commander focused on dismantling shanties and illegal structures encroaching on road setbacks and worsening congestion. The exercise restored order to previously chaotic stretches.
The enforcement drive extended into early morning hours, with operatives commencing operations as early as 5:00 a.m. to dislodge obstruction points that had long impeded vehicular flow.
During the operation, six vehicles found violating traffic regulations were impounded, sending a clear signal of zero tolerance for infractions.
Residents and commuters in the axis have since reported noticeable improvement in traffic movement, with authorities maintaining a visible presence to prevent a relapse.
At the Ijebu Ode Toll Gate corridor, a similar operation targeted indiscriminate parking by heavy-duty trucks and unchecked roadside trading along the highway.
The intervention, also led by the Area Commander, resulted in the systematic dispersal of truck clusters and removal of encumbrances that had crippled traffic in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that continuous monitoring and strict compliance measures have been put in place to consolidate the gains recorded.
Reaffirming the Command’s stance, Ojajuni warned that illegal parking, roadside trading, and all forms of highway obstruction would attract arrest and prosecution, urging residents to support the operation through prompt reporting via designated emergency lines.
