Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday received Mutiat Disu at the State House, Abuja, in a meeting that underscored renewed focus on the welfare of police families nationwide.
The high-level engagement, held behind closed doors, brought together two influential figures at the intersection of governance and social advocacy, with discussions centred on strengthening support systems for women linked to the police institution.
Emerging from the meeting, the First Lady charged her guest to sustain and expand efforts aimed at improving the welfare and wellbeing of wives of police officers across the country.
She emphasised the importance of structured empowerment, noting that women within the policing community remain critical to social stability and family cohesion.
Mrs Disu, who also serves as National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, said the visit was both strategic and instructive, offering her the opportunity to draw from the First Lady’s extensive experience in social interventions.
She disclosed plans to align the activities of the association with the programmes of the Renewed Hope Initiative, with a view to scaling impact across health, welfare and economic empowerment.
According to her, the interaction provided clarity on how existing intervention frameworks can be adapted to meet the peculiar needs of police families.
She added that particular attention would be given to healthcare access and targeted support schemes designed to uplift members of the association.
Mrs Disu expressed confidence that closer collaboration with the First Lady would unlock new opportunities for women, especially within the policing ecosystem where support structures are often stretched.
She further assured that her leadership would prioritise inclusiveness, ensuring that the benefits of ongoing initiatives reach a wider base of beneficiaries.
Her emergence as POWA president followed the appointment of Tunji Disu as Inspector General of Police on February 24, 2026, succeeding Kayode Egbetokun, marking a new phase for the association.
