INSIDE ALAGBON: The Tough Directives DIG FCID Gave Officers On Discipline And Investigation

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, DIG Sadiq Idris Abubakar, on 3rd February, 2026, paid a working visit to the FCID Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, as part of his statutory oversight and supervisory responsibilities aimed at strengthening investigative standards and enhancing operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.

According to a statement issued by ASP Mayegun Aminat, ANIPR, MNISMA, Police Public Relations Officer, speaking on behalf of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, FCID Annex, Alagbon,
Ikoyi, Lagos, the development was formally confirmed. During the visit, the DIG FCID charged commissioned officers of the Department to make significant and positive contributions in their respective areas of responsibility and to continually project the Nigeria Police Force and the FCID in good light, stressing that the FCID remains the apex of criminal investigation in Nigeria.

He further directed commissioned officers to ensure close supervision of their subordinates in order to entrench discipline, accountability, and strict adherence to extant rules and procedures. The DIG commended officers and men of the Command for their sacrifices, resilience, and unwavering commitment to duty despite operational challenges, assuring them that their efforts are recognised and appreciated.

The DIG emphasised that land ownership-related disputes are purely civil in nature and should not be investigated by the Police, except where elements of crime such as fraud, threat to life, or violence are established. Officers were also admonished to always harmonise cases and avoid parallel investigation of the same matter in different sections, so as to prevent duplication of efforts and promote efficiency.

He reiterated the importance of professionalism, integrity, and strict compliance with established standards in the discharge of duties, noting that all officers are working towards a common goal of supporting the Inspector-General of Police in achieving his mission and vision of a better, more effective, and safer Nigeria.

In her response, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of FCID Annex, Alagbon, AIG Margaret Ochalla, fsi, appreciated the DIG FCID for the visit and valuable guidance, and assured him of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the mission and vision of the Force Criminal Investigation Department.
