The Kosofe School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) has renewed its strategic partnership with the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) Nigeria, as part of renewed efforts to strengthen school improvement and community education development across the Kosofe Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) in Lagos State.
The partnership renewal, which took place on January 29, 2026, at the Kosofe LGEA Hall, St. Agnes Primary School, Maryland School Complex, aligns with the SBMC’s statutory mandate to promote inclusive governance, community participation and sustainable development within public primary schools in the local government area.
Speaking at the event themed “Building Relationships, Strengthening Partnership,” stakeholders reaffirmed the importance of public–private collaboration in addressing emerging educational challenges, improving learning outcomes and fostering peaceful school environments.
According to the organisers, the renewed engagement with WANEP Nigeria is designed to deepen community engagement, support government policies on school improvement and create a coordinated framework for stakeholders’ intervention in the education sector.
The programme also served as a platform to harmonise strategies for the 2026 operational year, with participants deliberating on practical approaches to strengthening school governance, child protection, peace education and community ownership of public schools.
Several organisations participated in the engagement, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Gold Crest Family, C21st Issues, The Abimibola Durojaye Foundation (TADF), Hands on Empowerment Foundation, Jomadel Med and other civil society actors committed to education and community development.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Kosofe SBMC, Mr. Odeyemi Richard, underscored the need for sustained collaboration between government institutions, civil society organisations and community stakeholders to achieve measurable improvements in public education.
He noted that the renewed partnership with WANEP Nigeria would strengthen peacebuilding initiatives within schools, enhance community participation and contribute to a more responsive and accountable education system in Kosofe.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on developing a clear 2026 mode of operation that prioritises partnership, innovation and shared responsibility for the advancement of basic education in Lagos State.
