The Lagos State Police Command has deployed officers on a permanent basis to Grange School and Greensprings School, Ikeja, following security threats that prompted temporary closure of the schools and raised concerns among parents.
The deployment was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, after the two schools received threatening WhatsApp messages from the same unidentified source. Grange School closed on Thursday as a precaution, while Greensprings School, Anthony Campus, asked students who had already arrived for classes to return home pending security assessment.
In a letter to parents dated January 21, 2026, the Head of Grange School, Richard McMahon, said the decision to shut the school was taken to allow full engagement with security agencies. He stressed that the move was precautionary, adding that there was no indication of an immediate threat at the time.
“While we have no evidence of any imminent danger, the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remain our highest priority,” McMahon said.
The police later confirmed that the threat had been neutralised following a swift and intelligence-driven operation. In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said specialised units, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit, the Rapid Response Squad and other tactical teams, were deployed to the schools.
According to her, a thorough sweep of the premises was carried out and no explosive devices or hazardous materials were discovered.
“Both schools have been declared safe and fit for academic and administrative activities,” Adebisi said, adding that investigations were ongoing to trace and apprehend those responsible for the threat messages.
She noted that the command had reinforced security around the affected schools to reassure parents, staff and students, while maintaining heightened surveillance in the area.
Meanwhile, the Association of Private Educators in Nigeria called on schools to strengthen internal security measures and remain vigilant. The association also disclosed that it had received assurances from the Lagos State Government that the situation was under control and that adequate steps had been taken to prevent any breach of security.
Parents were advised to remain calm as normal academic activities resume under increased police presence.
