The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly refuted reports claiming that Governor Dauda Lawal had written to the party to indicate his intention to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The party described the report, which was circulated as originating from Tambarin Gusau, as false, misleading and devoid of any factual basis.
In a statement issued yesterday, the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Yusuf Idris Gusau, said the party had not received any correspondence whatsoever from Governor Lawal suggesting plans to leave the PDP for the APC.
According to Gusau, the publication did not represent the position of the party and was capable of misleading the public and creating unnecessary political tension in the state.
He stressed that the APC operates strictly through recognised and established party structures, noting that issues bordering on membership, alignment or defection are handled through formal channels and not through speculation or unverified reports.
“The APC in Zamfara State is not aware of any move, discussion or communication from Governor Dauda Lawal regarding a possible defection to our party,” the statement said.
The party, therefore, urged its members and the general public, particularly residents of Zamfara State, to disregard the report in its entirety, describing it as unfounded and a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation.
