In a decisive step to douse lingering tensions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, former state chairman, Mr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba, has formally accepted his removal from office and withdrawn the court action challenging his ouster.
Eba said the decision was guided by the overriding interest of peace, unity and the long-term stability of the party in the state, following sustained appeals from party leaders, associates and family members.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page and made available to THISDAY, the former chairman expressed appreciation to party members and supporters for their solidarity during his tenure, stressing that he had resolved to put the party’s collective interest above personal considerations.
He announced that he would no longer lay claim to the office of APC chairman in the state, while reaffirming his unwavering loyalty to the party.
“From this point, I should no longer be addressed as the Chairman of the APC in Cross River State. However, I remain a loyal and committed member of the party. In line with this, I have revalidated my membership and encourage all members, both old and new, to do the same,” Eba stated.
He disclosed that he would now return fully to his legal practice and agricultural enterprises, with renewed focus on initiatives aimed at revitalising the natural rubber sub-sector. Eba currently serves as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Rubber Research Institute, Benin.
Reaffirming his allegiance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, Eba called on party members to close ranks behind the new state leadership.
He urged stakeholders to actively participate in party programmes and activities, noting that unity and collective support remain essential to strengthening the APC and advancing its political objectives in Cross River State.
