Ronke Okunade Appointed 24th AIG, Takes Charge of Nigeria’s Maritime Police Command

The Nigeria Police Force, through the Maritime Police Command, has formally announced the assumption of duty of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, fsi, as the 24th Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command at the Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos.

According to an official release made available to the www.hybridnewsng.com by the Police Public Relations Officer,
Maritime Police Command, ASP Adebayo Rasheed Adesayo, “Her deployment follows a strategic posting by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM. AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, fsi, succeeds her predecessor, AIG Chinedu Oko, psc, continuing the mandate to safeguard Nigeria’s maritime domain with operational excellence.

AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, fsi, hails from Ogbomosho North Local Government Area of Oyo State. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Psychology from the University of Ibadan. She was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and underwent professional training at the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna, before commissioning as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). She completed her one year mandatory attachment at the Ondo State Police Command.

Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, AIG Okunade has served in multiple operational, administrative and investigative capacities across the Federation, including investigative and provost duties at the Force Provost Office, Force Headquarters Annex, divisional and area command leadership within the Railway Command, Airport Command, and several State Police Commands. She has also held senior administrative roles at the FCID Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, and led specialized units, including the Police Special Fraud Unit, Milverton, Lagos, and General Investigation, FCID Annex, Lagos, as a Commissioner of Police.

Until her appointment as AIG Maritime, she was notably the first female Commandant and first AIG to head the Police College, Kaduna, where she distinguished herself in institutional repositioning and capacity development.

AIG Okunade has attended numerous professional courses, seminars, and workshops within and outside Nigeria. She is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and is widely recognized for her professionalism, integrity, and commitment to upholding the core values of the Nigeria Police Force. She brings to the Command a wealth of experience and exemplary service.

In her assumption of duty, AIG Okunade affirmed her commitment to working with all stakeholders, officers, and personnel of the Maritime Police Command to ensure effective maritime security, maintain public confidence, and strengthen inter-agency cooperation. She has pledged a new dawn at the Command, aiming to take the Command to new heights.

The Maritime Police Command warmly welcomes AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, fsi, and wishes her a successful tenure marked by discipline, professionalism, and inclusive leadership. All sister agencies and relevant stakeholders are called upon to extend their support to her administration.
