The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral image currently circulating on social media, which is being misleadingly linked to an alleged incident said to have occurred on Sunday, 21 December 2025.
In a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command clarified that the image in question is not recent, but a recirculated photograph from a 2021 case that was officially confirmed and addressed at the time.
According to the statement, the incident was originally reported by Vanguard Newspaper in 2021, and a reverse image search has further verified the true origin and date of the photograph, disproving current claims attached to it.
The Ogun State Police Command therefore urges members of the public to desist from sharing outdated, misleading, or unverified information, as such actions can cause unnecessary panic and misinformation.
Residents are encouraged to always verify news through credible media organisations and official police communication channels before circulating content on social media.
