Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade have successfully repelled a heavy terrorist ambush in the Wajiroko area of Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, following a routine patrol aimed at securing communities around the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.
The patrol team, led by the Commander, 25 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, came under sudden and intense fire from insurgents while returning to base. Despite the surprise attack, soldiers of the brigade, supported by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), fought courageously and leveraged superior firepower to break through the ambush. The terrorists were forced to flee in disarray, abandoning their objective.
Sadly, two soldiers and two CJTF members lost their lives in the line of duty. The Nigerian Army has extended its condolences to the families, colleagues, and communities of the fallen heroes, commending their selfless service and ultimate sacrifice to the nation.
The Army also dismissed circulating online reports alleging the abduction of the Brigade Commander during the attack, describing the claims as false, misleading, and aimed at causing unnecessary panic. The public has been urged to disregard the fake narrative and rely only on verified information from official military channels.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (NAM), praised the troops for their exceptional bravery and resilience, noting that their unwavering dedication in one of the most challenging theatres of operation continues to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens while honouring the courage of personnel who risk and sometimes sacrifice their lives to keep the country secure.
